Advanced Individual Training
Advanced Individual Training or AIT is the next phase of training after BCT. At AIT you will learn your specific job. Instead of being taught how to ruck march and make a bed like in BCT. You will learn how to provide emergency medical care if your a health care specialist. Or if your a fire support specialist you will be taught how to call in close air support to kill your enemy's.
Basic Combat Training
Basic Combat Training or BCT is your initial training in the Army. It usually lasts 10 weeks, for certain jobs like Infantry it is 14 weeks because basic and advanced individual training is combined in what's called one station unit training or OSUT. BCT is held at a number of locations depending on your job. The locations are Fort Benning Georgia, Fort Sill Oklahoma, Fort Jackson South Carolina, Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.
Recruiting Process
The 1st step in becoming a Soldier in the US Army is meeting with a recruiter. The recruiting process is fairly simple. Your recruiter will usually have you take the practice ASVAB first to see where you are. Then you'll have a lot of paper work you'll have to fill out that your recruiter will give you. The next step is taking the ASVAB. If you pass you will go to MEPS or military entrance processing station. You will spend an entire day at MEPS. I got to MEPS at 4:00 AM and I didn't leave until 5:00 PM. You'll be given a lot of tests like vision, blood, hearing and urinalysis. Once you finish the tests you will meet your career counselor and pick your job and sign your contract. Then you will swear in and officially be enlisted in the Army.
